MODES OF WORK

The residency combines several interconnected modes of research and discourse.

Research presentation and contextualization
Participants articulate their questions, methods, materials, positions, and intended contributions. Presentation is treated as an analytic act through which implicit premises and unresolved problems become available for examination.

Close reading and source analysis
Texts, scores, recordings, archives, programs, policy documents, interviews, and institutional materials are examined with attention to provenance, mediation, context, terminology, and evidentiary limits.

Collaborative inquiry
Participants test propositions through sustained exchange. Collaboration may involve conceptual clarification, comparison of cases, interdisciplinary translation, counterargument, editorial revision, and the identification of absent perspectives or sources.

Writing and argumentation
Writing is approached as a method of thought rather than the transcription of completed ideas. Attention is given to structure, voice, definition, evidence, citation, scale, accessibility, and the distinction among analytic, interpretative, and normative claims.

Curatorial and institutional analysis
Programming, commissioning, publishing, funding, mediation, and organizational practice are examined as forms of knowledge production. Participants consider how selection, framing, resource allocation, and modes of address shape musical meaning and public access.

Working groups and symposia
Collective formats enable questions to develop beyond the limits of individual projects. They support comparison, disagreement, synthesis, and the formulation of new research problems.

Public discourse
Festival presentations place specialized inquiry in relation to artists, institutions, and audiences. Publicness is treated not as simplification, but as a demand for clarity, contextual responsibility, and intellectual consequence.
